 Nakhon Pathom Is located in an alluvial plain in the central region, about 58 km by road from Bangkok. It is an old city which has an interesting history dating back thousands of years. It was well known as a center of cultural development and prosperity. From the evidence revealed by extensive excavation in the past, we have learned a lot of things which have historical and archaeological value, such as Phra Pathom Chedi and Dhammacakra (Symbol of the completeness of the Dhamma) etc.
    The majority of the population are engaged in agricultural production such as rice farming, fruit and vegetable farming as well aas livestock raising. Particularl, the cultivation of Som-O (Pomelo) which has acquired a reputation for its finest of quality. As a result, Nakhon Pathom has become known to the public, both Thais and foreigners, according to the famous sologan, as a land of "Sweet Som-O, White rice, beatiful daughters and tasty Khao Laam" until the present time.

Land

    Generally, it is an area of alluvian plain which is drained by the Tha Chin River, covering an are of 2,168,327 sq km or about 1,355,204 sq Rai. It is mainly a rice producing area. Administration
    Nakhon Pathom' s administrative areas comprise 6 Amphoes, 1 king-amphoes, and 13 Sukhaphibans. Total population is 664, 190.

Economy

    Nakhon Pathom' s Economy is based mainly on agricultural production, such as farmings of rice, fruits, and vegetables, as well as animal raising. The significant local goods are Som-O, Coconut, swine, duck, chickens, and cattle, etc.
   
Social life

    Fundamentally, it is obviously a smooth, peaceful way of living. People firmly believe in the importance of traditions, customs, religion and have the same language to communicate with one another.

Transportation

    Nakhon Pathom is located very near Bangkok and it is conveniently accessible from the neighboring cities. Through the best high ways available, from Bangkok by car, we may choose to use Bang Kae and Phetkasem route or PhrapinKlao Nakorn Chaisri route, which takes about 40 minutes to reach Nakhon Pathom. Further more, traveling by train to Nakhon Pathom is another popular way in which the tourists can enjoy the natural scenery on the way sides of the fruit orchards and flower plantations along the way.

Interesting Place

Phra Pathom Chedi

    Situated in Tambon Phra Pathom Chedi, Amphoe Muang. It is a towering tribute to Buddhism, a place worthy of being worshipped of Nakhon Pathom. Chedi which, 235.50 meters high, is the biggest Chedi in Thailand, and is also the tallest of Buddhist monuments in the world.The Chedi's upper terraceis surrounded by the bell towers which are spaced at intervals. It is generally believed that anyone who strikes all of the bells can consign merit to the guarding Gods or Angels.
    Phra pathom Chedi has become a center of study and research of historical archaeology since it is the national museum of Phra Pathom Chedi and the collecting place for ancient artifacts in abundance such as Phra Ruang Rochanarit, pacifying the relatives posture, is one of the finest bronze image ever built in Sukhothai style; Buddha images in "Parlay-lai" posture, in "Pang Sila Kao" and in any other postures.
   
National museum of Phra Pathom Chedi

    Located within the compound of Phra Pathom Chedi, are some ancient arts and objects which are mainly of Thawarawadi style which are housed in the musuem.
   
Buddha Monton.

    It is a religious site built by the government and the people in order to commemorate the 2500th year of the existance of Buddhism. It is located in the areas of Tambon Sala Ya, Amphoe Nakhon Chaisri and Tombon Bang Ratuek, Amphoe Sam Pran within an area of 2,500 rai. The principal Buddha statute, in a walking posture, is 13.75 meters tall. it is centrally located in the Buddha Monton which is decorated by gardens of bamboo trees and a variety of trees mentioned in Buddha history.
   
Wat Phra Mainru

    An ancient Wat in Thawarawadi Period, it is located at Suan Nantha Authayan, Tambon Jorakeh. A number of religious arts, artifacts can be found in this Wat such as bronze Buddha images, parts of the limb of the Buddha image Sila Kao and the guarding giant, lion including parts of the intricately decorative items of the ruined Chedi.
   
Wat Phra Pratone Chedi

    Located on Phetkasem Road, Tambon Phra Pratone, Amphoe Muang Nakhon Pathom, there is a large mound in the middle of wat's area, which is surrounded by Prangs of about 20 meters high. Artifacts and religious objects which were discovered during excavation are on display such as the Buddha images, strings of beads and the stucco Brahmin head.
   
Wat Don Yai Hom

    Located in Tambon Don Yai Hom, Amphoe Muang Nakhon Pathom, it is generally known ass "Wat Kok Yai Hom". At the present time, it is an archaeological site, a ruin which is called "Nearn Phra". Regarding Wat Kok Yai Hom which was located in Moo3 ,Tambon Don Yai Hom is an old Wat which has become almost dilapidated.
   
Wat Rai Khing

    Located in Tambon Sam Pran, 32 km from Bangkok, it was bulit in 1791. A Buddha statute, Mara Wichai posture, which is generally known as "Luang Por Wat Rai Khing".
   
Old Kam Phaeng San

    An ancient city built in the Thawarawadi period, it was called "Muang Thep Nakhon" then, by the founder, Chao Siri Chai San Muang. Since the topographical area of the old Kam Phaeng San comprises an extensive area of jungle and a waterway in the North, a boy scout camp. Located in Moo 5 Tambon Tung Kwang, Amphoe Kam Phaeng San, recently, this boy scout camp has been expandded extensively in order to be fit for boy scout activities, as well as to serve as a botanical garden for recreative purposes.
   
Suan Sam Pran

    Only 30 km from Nakhon Pathom and 32 km from Bangkok by road, it is a tourist attraction as well as a recreational place located in the Sam Pran. it features a village of typical Thai houses in the countrry. Also there are some demonstrations on cloth weaving, unbrella making, pottery production, making flowery garland, covering lacquer and gilding arts, etc. which are reputed chance handrafts of Thailand.
   
Snam Chand Palace

    Located about 2 km West of Phra pathom Chedi, covering an area of 888 rai, 3 ngarn, 4 sq wah, there are a number of exquisite royal residences and palaces during the reign of King rama VI available as follows : Piman Pathom Hall, Wat-Charee Rommaya Hall, The Charli Mongkol Asna building, The Marie Raja Rata Ballang building, The Tabkaew Hall, The Tabkwan Hall, Ruen Tabcharoen, The Monument of King Rama VI, Sra Nam Chand.
   
Sam Pran Golf course

    32 km from Bangkok, by Phet kasem road, it is located opposite Suan Sam Pran, built in 1972. It has an arrea of 437 rai. 7,085 yards with 18 holes, Par 72. It is one of the best 25 standard golf course in the world.
   
Elephant shows and zoo, Sam Pran

    Located at km 31 on Phet Kasem road, near Suan Sam Pran, an elephant show in the program is arranged for enhancing enjoyment of the tourists. it is available everyday.
   
Authayarn Pla

    Located in Moo 1 , Tambon Huay Plu, Amphoe Nakhon Chaisri, in front of the wat area, there is a converging place of fish. They come to this place naturally such as Swai, Thepoe, Tapien, and Hang-Daeng. They are all natives of the Tha Chin River. this Authayarn Pla is about 11 km from the intersection to the Amphoe's office.
   
Thai wax museum

    Located at 43/2 Moo 1 , on Pin Klao / Nakhon Chaisri road, it is the first time in Thailand that we can see the artistic work by the dedicated endeavor of a group of creative Thai artists. For over 10 years comes this "Sculpture of life" which reflects the blending of sciences and arts in a lively way. Even the outer surface of the statutes and immages, are carefully moulded from fiber glass so that they can be made to look life-like. The finished works on display are sets of "Pra Ariyasong", "The regal statutes of kings in the Chakri Dynasty" and " An angle of life".
   
Crocodile, Farm Sam Pran

    Located at 117 Moo 6 Phet Kasem Road, tambon Takarm Amphoe Sam Pran Nakhon Pathom.
   
Suan Silpa Misium Yip-in-Soi

    Located at 38/9, Buddha Monton Road 7, it is a collecting place of the collections of Khun Misium in a considerable number so that the research and study by the students and any interested people can be made. In addition, there is a library which collects magazines and documents about the arts which belong to Khun Misium which are available to the public for study and research works.
   
Thai Zoo-eng, Koh Rad village

    Located in Tambon Bang Pla, Amphoe Bang Lane, it is a Thai Zoo-eng group that migrated from a village in Nang pra, Amphoe Khao Yoy Phetchaburi Province. The Word Zoo-eng is distorted from the word Suang, or Song which are translated as "a pair of trousers". Sometimes we refer this group of people as Lao Song Dam or Thai song dam, The word DAM, in this case, means the dresses, because they are likely to dress in black clothing. The nam is likely to put on black pants with fitted legs which is called "SONG KOM". Sometimes they wear long black sleeve shirts which are called "SUA HEE". The woman is likely to wear a sarong having black and white stripes alternatively lengthwise which is called "KAN". Thai Zoo-eng possess handicraft abilities in making household utilsils, in wicker-work, in weaving cloths and other household applicances.
