Narathiwat Province
BackGroundNarathiwat is another southern most province of Thailand bordering on the Malaysian territory especially at Amphoe Sungai Ko-Lok which is an important junction where the Thai southern Railroad ends and connected by another railway communication through the border to Tumpad Station in Malaysia. Narathiwat is the province having beautiful natural sceneries of both the forests and the seaside resorts which are places of interest, being the land of gold mine located some 1,149 kms. south of Bangkok.
Narathiwat is currently divided into 12 Amphoes, i.e., Muang, Rangae, Sungai Padi, Sungai Kolok Ruso, Yi-ngo Waeng, Bacho, Tak Bai, Si Sakhon, Sukhirin and Chanae occupying an overall area of 4,475.4 square kilometres, bordering on Pattani to the north, Kalantan State of Malaysia to the south, Yala to the east and the Indian Ocean to the west.
Tourist Attractions
Nam Tok Bacho : Nam Tok BachoThis waterfall is located in the area of Amphoe Bacho at Km. 73 of Pattani-Narathiwat Highway where there is an access road branching off on the right hand side with a short distance to Num Tok Bacho Forest Park. The waterfall cascades from a very high cliff having a strong current, then, turned into a pleasant flowing stream through the forestry area. This is really one of the most beautiful waterfalls of the South.
Hat Narathat : This beach is located near Narathiwat township area being a white sand-powdered beach along the coastline of the Pacific Ocean. It is regarded a really beautiful beach of the South.
The scene of this area is of high coconut groves lines behind the beach. Households of the fishermen in this village area scatteredly dotted under the dhady coconut groves and a vast number of fishing boats of all sizes can be seen in the bay.
Phra Buddha Thaksin Ming MongkonPhra Buddha Thaksin Ming Mongkon : This huge Sitting Buddha image was constructed on top of Khao Kong Hill, Tambon Lamphu, Amphoe Muang. The whole area occupies a space of 142 rai having threelevelled hilly landscape. The width of the lap of this Buddha image is 15 meters and the height from the base to the top of the finial is 24 meters decorated with gold-coloured mosaic tiles having Buddhistic beauty in compliance with the southern culture.
Siri Maha Maya Pagoda : This pagoda is in the area of Khao Kong Buddhistic Park, having the bell shape, hollow inside, and the sacred Buddha's relics are enshrined on the top. This pagoda has been constructed, with harmony of Narathiwat people, as dedicatiojn to H.M. the Queen.
Thaksin Ratchanivet Palace : This palace is located on the castern foot hill of Khao Tanyong, 8 kms. from the township area on the road to Tak Bai, beign the royal residence when H.M. the King and his royal family mades an annual visit to the South
Khao Tanyongmat : The name of this hill is very beautiful located on the opposite side of the town, having beautiful scenery around the hill thus convincing the inhabitants to spend their official holidays and weedend days there.
Amphoe Sungai Kolok : This Amphoe is located some 60 kms. from the township area bordering on Malaysia at Rantau Panjang. It is the junction for people of the two countries where the Malaysians do their shoppong of consumer goods and enjoy seafood in Thai reataurants because of cheaper prices while the Thai tourists make their trip through the border to shop some unusual particulars at Rantau Panjang town.
Nam Tok Chat Warin Forest Park : This park is Nam Tok Chat Warin Forest Park located in the area of Tambon To Deng, Amphoe Sungai Padi, 3 kms. from To Deng Railway Station. The waterfall, Nam Tok Chat Warin originates from Bukit Nawae Mountain Cascading down as a seven-levelled waterfall having a rest pavillion on the lowest level.
200 Years Mosque or Vadinhusen Mosque : It is located in Tambon Lubosawo, 4 kms. , from Amphoe Bacho Admonistrative Office, on Narathiwat - Pattani Highway. The whole wood building mixed the Thai-China-Malay architecture. It is now reconstructed but still in the old form.
